Sprigeo is our online tool for reporting mean, malicious, and bullying behaviors. It is an anonymous reporting program, which means you do not have to give your name. By giving your name, you allow the administration the opportunity to ask more questions of you, if that is necessary. For example, if someone were to fill out a report that said "Karen was mean to Megan," it would be difficult for the adults at school to do much about that. By submitting your name, and as many details as possible, with the report; the assistant principals, the Dean, principal, and the counselors would be able to ask more questions of you. This would then lead to more accurate information and a better chance of stopping the mean, malicious, and bullying behaviors.
As we head into the Friday before Spring Break, I am noticing many students who have started "checking out" already. We work every day in our classes, and you are graded on your classwork daily. My hope for you is that you rest up over break and come back with a renewed interest in your classes.
We will still be recording for the two weeks after we return, then we will get to our dissections. At the end of April, we will dissect chicken wings and observe how the muscular and skeletal systems work together. After that, we will dissect sheep eyes and explore the many parts that work together to allow us to see clearly. Seventh grade Academic Pentathlon will be going to competition in Westminster on April 14th. Sixth grade will have an additional month to study before their competition in Irvine on May 5th. Mathematics - The expectation is that you will complete one problem in Mathia every day. Science - We will begin the research on our Science Projects November 27th. If you find any books that will help with your research, bring them to class that week. Academic Pentathlon - Many of you are forgetting to leave your documents in the folder you have created and shared with me. This leads to a zero on work I know you did as I cannot access it to grade it. The first five students who respond to this post by 7:30 a.m. on November 27th get a front of the line pass, a Scorpion ticket, and a new mechanical pencil. SCIENCE PROJECTS BEGIN NOVEMBER 6!
Most of your science project can be done in class, if you stay focused. November 6-9 Research ideas, choose an experiment, determine a testable question, get parent permission for the experiment. November 13-17 Plan the experiment, write the steps in the procedure, and determine and list the materials needed. November 27-December 15 Research the concepts behind the experiment, create a bibliography, cite your sources correctly, and determine your hypothesis. December 16-January 7 Conduct the experiment, record data and observations, create tables, charts, and graphs for the results and data. Take photographs of the process. January 8-12 Write the project report, create a google slides presentation. January 16-19 Present your experiment and findings in class. Science Project due in its entirety for full credit. Yesterday, we participated in the Great American Shake-out. We learned about earthquake disaster response, how to get our homes ready for an earthquake, and what to do if an earthquake occurs while we are in school. I encourage you to talk as a family and discuss your own earthquake response. Who will be responsible to get children from various schools or other locations? Where outside of your home will your family meet if an earthquake happens while you are at home? What are your emergency supplies, and where can everyone find them? What will you do if you cannot get to a family member? Always remember, if an earthquake happens while school is in session, my first responsibility is to keep your children safe to the best of my ability. We stay with your children until someone on the emergency card comes to collect your child.
I enjoyed seeing so many families at Back to School Night. I am glad you were able to find me in the Library. My air conditioning was off and could not be restarted. Therefore, unfortunately, nobody got to see the amazing job my children did cleaning the desks and decorating with streamers. I decided to leave the streamers up since they were put up with so much love. I appreciate the opportunity to talk to parents when it is not about grades or discipline. Too many times, that is the first time a parent and teacher talk. Please feel free to let me know what is going on in your life that may impact your learning. Is there a new baby keeping you up at night? Are you struggling to understand when I talk to fast? Do you want to stay for study hall, but you don't have a way to get home? Have your parents email me and we can see what can be worked out to keep you successful. *Any student who lets me know you read this by September 1st, will get a Scorpion Ticket.*
Happy School Year! It was nice to see so many smiling faces today. I look forward to all of the wonderful things we will learn this year. Enjoy the rest of your first week of school.
I know you are all very excited that a break is soon to be upon us. However, we still have two weeks to work together, don't start slacking now. You are rockstars! You can level up on MathiaX. You can finish your Living Wise packets. You can learn everything you need to know about WWII so we can go to competition. I have complete faith in you and your ability to get your job done correctly. Have a wonderful two weeks in the countdown to break.
We are seven days into trimester three. Grades have been posted for all of my classes. If you were absent for one or more assignments, please make sure to determine what you missed and how you can make up the work.
Make sure you get credit for reading this post by notifying me you have done so by March 10th. |
