2018-2019 Academic Pentathlon
The 1960s: A Transformational Decade
We had eight students compete in the 8th grade category. They competed in Orange County on a Saturday against 63 teams from 33 schools mostly from Orange County and LA County.
8th graders: Haley, Daniel, Erick, Christian, Viviana, Citlali
7th graders: Lena, Jadalyn
Haley earned the Perseverance Award, an award given by the team to the person who has most influenced them to do well.
Erick brought home a first place medal in Math.
Lena and Jadalyn have now competed two years in a row. Both of them brought home medals last year. They competed on the 8th grade team as we did not have enough 7th graders this year to form a 7th grade team.
Citlali is the only student who has now competed all three years. She earned medals in 6th grade and in 7th grade.
Six sixth graders competed in the 6th grade category. They competed, also in Orange County, against 51 teams from 30 schools mostly from Orange County and LA County.
6th graders: Ximena, Rodolfo, Emely, Selvin, Mariana, Angel
The sixth grade team won 6th place in their division and 5th place in SuperQuiz. SuperQuiz is where they have to answer questions, in teams, in front of an auditorium full of spectators.
Ximena earned the Perseverance Award, an award given by the team to the person who has most influenced them to do well, and 4th place in Science.
Rodolfo earned 4th place in Math.
Emely earned 4th place in Science.
Angel earned 3rd place in Science and 4th place in Math.
The team was also awarded a certificate from the City of Desert Hot Springs for their work in Academic Pentathlon.
